About

Our objective is to create a High Ambition Coalition for Plant-Based Food Systems Transformation.

We’ve created a High Ambition Coalition for Plant-Based to bring people and organisations together around a shared goal: moving away from exploitative animal farming and towards the transition to plant-based food systems.

For years, scientists, philosophers, environmentalists, social scientists, and animal advocates have raised important concerns about the future of our food system, the climate crisis, animal rights and the concerning trajectory in which we are moving. In May 2026, a group of people from across these fields came together to explore a new and urgent question: What happens when the rapid growth of AI investment is channelled into welfare technologies designed to make animal farming more efficient, profitable and scalable?

Investment in technologies that optimize the existing animal farming system are also reinforcing that system – making it more economically viable, rather than helping us transition beyond it. We believe this moment calls for a broader conversation, where everyone is welcome to contribute and take part.

At High Ambition Coalition for Plant-Based, we want to focus on the bigger picture and make sure the critical aspects of climate change and animal rights are considered within this wave of AI investment.

A positive vision for change

The challenges facing our food system are interconnected. Climate change, biodiversity loss, food insecurity, public health pressures, and animal exploitation and suffering are part of a wider set of overlapping polycrises.

We believe accelerating the transition towards plant-based food systems is an absolutely integral part of addressing these challenges.

Our approach is positive, collaborative and solutions-focused. We want to bring together people working across different movements and disciplines to explore what a plant-based future can look like, and how we can get there.

For health. For climate. For food security. For animals. For humanity.

A coalition for collaboration

High Ambition Coalition for Plant-Based is open to everyone who wants to contribute to this conversation.

We aim to connect researchers, campaigners, organisations, policymakers, businesses, communicators and individuals who share an interest in building safe and just food systems.

We don’t believe any one movement or discipline has all the answers. Progress will require collaboration across sectors, evidence-based thinking and a willingness to develop practical solutions together.

What we offer

  • Education — accessible resources and information on the case for plant-based food systems, diet change, and why animals matter within this challenge.
  • Action — opportunities to turn ideas into collective action.
  • Speakers — voices from across science, social science, philosophy, environmentalism, technology, and social change.
  • Experts — access to people working at the forefront of relevant fields.
  • Recommendations — practical and holistic ecological systems-based solutions for accelerating the transition.

Our first major report, “Beyond Cage-Free: A Call for Holistic Animal Philanthropy in an Era of the AI Windfall, Climate Change, and Interconnected Global Risks,” was released in September 2026, alongside an open letter calling for greater ambition and collaboration around the transition to plant-based food systems.
